That Distinction Matters
Reading this chapter made me pause and reflect deeply on my own practice, not just as a teacher, but as an adult in the room who is often the calm (or not-so-calm) anchor for students navigating complex emotions. The metaphor of the Jungle resonated immediately. I’ve seen it countless times – when a student suddenly snaps, argues endlessly, or reacts explosively to something minor. I used to think of those moments as bad behaviour or defiance. But this chapter reframed it for me: it’s emotional overload, not defiance and I feel that distinction matters.
